The Pico do Papagaio (982m) is the second-highest point on Ilha Grande and one of the island’s most famous trails, located within the Ilha Grande State Park. The hike crosses native Atlantic Forest, offering contact with centuries-old trees, bromeliads, orchids, and, with some luck, wildlife such as toucans, monkeys, and marmosets.

Schedules:

• Day hike: Departure in the morning (7–8 a.m.) to enjoy the view from the summit.

• Night hike for sunrise: Departure between 1–2 a.m., reaching the top before the sun rises — the most popular option.

• Pants (tactel/legging) or shorts suitable for trekking

• Extra t-shirt (to change after sweating)

• Windbreaker/waterproof jacket

• Plastic bag (to take your trash back)

• Headlamp (mandatory for the night hike)
   

Recommendations:

• Do not use sweet fragrances, only dry deodorant, as they may attract bees and wasps.
   

Notes:

• Small children should not attempt this trail.
