The Corcovado Trail

The Corcovado Trail is one of the most challenging and incredible ecotourism experiences in Rio de Janeiro. Located within the Tijuca National Park , it connects Parque Lage , in the Botanical Gardens, to the top of Corcovado Mountain , where Christ the Redeemer , one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World, is located.

Approximately 3.8 km long (one way) and with a height difference of approximately 710 meters , it is a moderate to difficult trail, recommended for people in good physical condition.

History of the Corcovado Trail

The path that is used today as a trail has its origins in the colonial period, when the Tijuca Forest region was reforested by D. Pedro II, in the 19th century, to protect the water springs that supplied the city.

In the past, this trail was used by workers and hunters traveling between the region's farms and the top of Corcovado Mountain. Over the years, it has become a popular route for hikers and nature lovers looking for adventure and stunning views.

The trail officially became part of Tijuca National Park , which is the largest replanted urban forest in the world.
